Please meet Sykes, he arrived in rescue last week, he is an American Bulldog boy aged approximately 1 year and a half years old and was bought here because the family had acquired a new American Bulldog youngster who apparently Sykes had taken a disliking to. They therefore wanted to get rid of Sykes.

When he got here it was plainly obvious that Sykes was not the problem at all! Sykes had alot of damage to his mouth and throat area caused by a dog fight that had gone untreated. He had nasty green pus running out of a large injury on his bottom lip and a big chunk of flesh out of his throat area. Obviously the American Bulldog had grabbed him by his face and throat and shook him as the injuries were tear injures. This must have happened at least a week before they wanted rid of him as there was alot of infection.  read more »

My son purchased a pure bred American Bulldog male. The puppy is 8 weeks old.
Three days ago it began favoring its left front leg. When standing the leg
shakes, bows out at the ankle joint very noticeably. Broughyt thye dog to a
vet. X-rayed the leg. Nothing detectable. Vet is worried about a
conformational problem. Anyone have some experience with American Bulldogs and
their
development?? We do not want to return the dog to the breeder. The dog
is not senstive to manipulating the joint, and will dash off and run as though
nothing is wrong ?? thank you.

This sindrome of bowing out the ankle (precisly the wrist - on front limb) when young puppie is standing, points to rickets or D hypovitaminosis (decreased concentration of vitamine D in organism). The joint usually is not painfull and the animal has normal behaviour.  read more »

Maximus is an American Bulldog aged approximately 4 years old. Maximus has a good temperament, very gentle and appears to know some basic commands. He has been playing with the other dogs and is fine. His tail wags all of the time, he is affectionate and loving. He is a really nice boy, who as you can see from below, is a very friendly, happy boy eager to play with his pal Sabre!
